GRAND TOUR OF SICILY
8 days/7 nights Palermo to Palermo

 

Day 1: PALERMO
Arrival in Palermo and accommodation in hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: PALERMO – SEGESTA – TRAPANI - PALERMO
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for Segesta and visit the perfectly conserved Doric Temple of the 5th century b.C. and the Greek Temple. Lunch in Erice, town full of myth and history, art and environment, located at 800 metres above the sea level, famous for it’s Cyclopean masonry. After lunch enjoy an orientation tour of Trapani’s saltmills. Return to Palermo. Dinner and overnight at hotel.

Day 3: PALERMO – CEFALU – TINDARI - TAORMINA
After breakfast leave for Cefalù, a pleasant resort well known for its beautiful Norman Cathedral, in Arab style, with it’s famous mosaics. Proceed to Tindari to admire the magnificent view of the sand-tongues. Continue to Taormina, accommodation in hotel near the city, dinner and overnight.

Day 4: TAORMINA – MOUNT ETNA - TAORMINA
After breakfast, depart for a half-day guided visit of Taormina, founded by the Greeks in 8th century b.C. situated on a terrace 206 meters above the sea level. In the afternoon, visit Mount Etna, the largest volcano in Europe: by bus as far as Rifugio Sapienza (1910 m.); if weather permits, it’s possible to continue by jeep right to the craters. In late afternoon, wine tasting in a local cellar, to know more about the Etna – area wines. Dinner and overnight.

Day 5: TAROMINA - SIRACUSA
Breakfast in hotel. Departure for Siracusa, one of the finest cities in Sicily and the most important for history and archaeology: in the morning, visit the archaeological area; in the afternoon, visit the city centre (Ortigia Peninsula). Accommodation in hotel in Siracusa, dinner and overnight.

Day 6: SIRACUSA – PIAZZA ARMERINA - AGRIGENTO
After breakfast, depart for Piazza Armerina and visit the world famous Villa Romana del Casale, well known for its well-preserved mosaics. Continue to Agrigento. Visit the archaeological area famous for the enormous Greek temples. After dinner enjoy a panoramic tour of the Valley of the Temples illuminated. Accommodation in hotel in Agrigento and overnight.

Day 7: AGRIGENTO – MONREALE - PALERMO
Breakfast in hotel. Departure for Palermo, capital of Sicily and one of the biggest cities in Italy. Stop in Monreale to visit the Duomo, one of the most reknowned monumemts in the world as well as the Benedectine Cloister, in pure Norman style. In the afternoon visit the city of Palermo including the Cathedral, the Palatine Chapel in the Royal Palace, as well as a panoramic tour of the historical centre. Accommodation in hotel in Palermo, dinner and overnight.

Day 8: DEPARTURE
Breakfast in hotel. Departure.
